| Tue 03 Apr 07 - MUSIC - Season of Mist Records |
|
I first heard that label when they signed with Mayhem some years ago. Its not my favorite band but ok. The label continued to sign other extreme metal acts (among my favorite are Arcturus, Gorgoroth, Red Harvest, Anorexia Nervosa). In 2005/6 they signed with my favorite band, Rotting Christ. In 2007 the great black metalers Naer Mataron also sign. Just now I've learned that Septic Flesh will realease the reunion album with SoM as well as Christian Death.
Why do I mention that? I'm a SoM shareholder? No!! I'm just really happy for SoM's great job in the scene and because Septic Flesh will make a reunion album (thanks SatanJarl for the great news).
Bring more bands to rot our souls Micheal!!!! |

| Mon 02 Apr 07 - GAMES - Call of Cthulhu DcoTE |
|
Sometimes it's good to mention some "not so popular" games what deserve to be heard. Well Call of Cthulhu DcoTE is one of those great games that fails to be so popular for some reason. As you may have noticed from the name, it is a game based on the popular novel by the master H.P. Lovecraft, so the game have references to the occult, monsters and atmosphere. Well thats the point of the game, the great atmosphere. The game is an action adventure played in first person. It has lots of new gameplay elements, a intense story, it's creepy and frightening at times. The area that fails is the technology. The graphics were outdated when it shipped, the animations are 5 years old and Thief I has better sound than this. At least it plays smooth in my outdated PC. Onother minus for the game is that from the second half and latter it turns into a pointless shooter.
Call of Cthulhu DcoTE is a great game and it would be a great hit if is was shipped 1 or 2 years earlier. If you like atmosphere, horror, adventure you will like it. |

| Wed 28 Mar 07 - GAMES - S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl |
|
I just bought this long awaited game. I was expecting this for too long, I saw countless videos, countless screens, I read almost every preview. Fortunately I will have it in 5 days. Unfortunately I don't have a PC to play it. My rig is far from the min specs. Why did I bought it then? Im an idiot that why. |

| Wed 28 Feb 07 - SOFTWARE - Endorphin (Dynamic Motion Synthesis software) |
|
Recently I run into a piece of s/w called endorphin. Imagine that you play a video game where the character gets a kick in the face. The common way to apply the animation in a situation like this one is by animating the scene (motion capture or not) or by applying ragdoll physics. The first method is not for every case. If the characters gets a kick from the rear you have to animate him again, this means too few possible anims or plenty of time to produce them. In the second case the character reacts like dead because ragdoll is mainly for death sequences. So many possible animations, not lifelike results though.
Now imagine that the character reacts like a real person. Covering his face after the kick or putting his hands in the ground to avoid the fall. Thats motion synthesis and it looks impressive. Goodbye time consuming animations, welcome to the lifelike and interactive scenes.
Check some videos here.
PS: I'm not promoting this software or something. I just find it impressive so I wrote a few words. |
